Sahih al-Bukhari 4129 (Book 64, Hadith 173) #3948
Praying in Battle

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) led a prayer in the battle of Dhat-ur-Riqa, and stayed in the standing posture while one batch completed their prayer by themselves and lined up facing the enemy. He then offered his remaining rak'a with another batch and finished his prayer with Taslim along with them.

Narrated Salih bin Khawwat: Concerning those who witnessed the Fear Prayer that was performed in the battle of Dhat-ur-Riqa in the company of Allah's Messenger ; One batch lined up behind him while another batch (lined up) facing the enemy. The Prophet led the batch that was with him in one rak'a, and he stayed in the standing posture while that batch completed their (two rak'at) prayer by themselves and went away, lining in the face of the enemy, while the other batch came and he (ie the Prophet) offered his remaining rak'a with them, and then, kept on sitting till they completed their prayer by themselves, and he then finished his prayer with Taslim along with them.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how to pray during a battle. It was narrated by Salih bin Khawwat that during the battle of Dhat-ur-Riqa, Allah's Messenger led one batch of people in one rak'a while they were lined up behind him. He then stayed in the standing posture while they completed their two rak'ats on their own. Then he offered his remaining rak’ah with another batch who came after them and finished his prayer with Taslim along with them. This hadith teaches us that even when we are faced with difficult situations such as war or battles, we should still remember to pray to Allah for guidance and protection from harm. We should also be mindful of our actions even when we are under pressure or fear as it is important to stay true to our faith no matter what situation we find ourselves in.
