Sahih al-Bukhari 4128 (Book 64, Hadith 172) #3947
Excessive Walking in a Ghazwa

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet (ﷺ) and his companions going on a Ghazwa, and due to excessive walking their feet became thin. They wrapped their feet with pieces of cloth, which is why the Ghazwa was named Dhat-ur-Riqa.

Narrated Abu Burda: Abu Musa said, "We went out in the company of the Prophet for a Ghazwa and we were six persons having one camel which we rode in rotation. So, (due to excessive walking) our feet became thin and my feet became thin and my nail dropped, and we used to wrap our feet with the pieces of cloth, and for this reason, the Ghazwa was named Dhat-ur-Riqa as we wrapped our feet with rags". When Abu- Musa narrated this (Hadith), he felt regretful to do so and said, as if he disliked to have disclosed a good deed of his.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be prepared for any situation you may face in life; take care of yourself during difficult times by doing whatever you can to protect yourself from harm or injury; wrap your feet with pieces of cloth if needed while travelling long distances without proper shoes/protection .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions going on a Ghazwa, which is an Islamic term for a battle or military expedition. During this journey they walked so much that their feet became thin and nails dropped off. To protect their feet from further damage they wrapped them with pieces of cloth, which is why this particular Ghazwa was named Dhat-ur-Riqa or “the wrapping of rags” in Arabic. This hadith teaches us that we should be prepared for any situation we may face in life, even if it means having to walk long distances without proper shoes or protection for our feet. It also shows us how important it is to take care of ourselves during difficult times by doing whatever we can to protect ourselves from harm or injury.
