Age Restrictions for Battle Participation

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) inspected Ibn 'Umar on the day of Uhud and did not allow him to take part in the battle, but allowed him to take part in the battle of Al-Khandaq when he was fifteen years old.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: That the Prophet inspected him on the day of Uhud while he was fourteen years old, and the Prophet did not allow him to take part in the battle. He was inspected again by the Prophet on the day of Al- Khandaq (ie battle of the Trench) while he was fifteen years old, and the Prophet allowed him to take Part in the battle.
حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ عَرَضَهُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَهْوَ ابْنُ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ فَلَمْ يُجِزْهُ، وَعَرَضَهُ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ وَهْوَ ابْنُ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ فَأَجَازَهُ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about age restrictions for participation in battles. It narrates that when Ibn 'Umar was fourteen years old, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ inspected him and did not allow him to take part in a battle. However, when he was fifteen years old, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ allowed him to participate in a battle. This hadith teaches us that there are certain age restrictions for participating in battles and that we should follow these rules set by our religious leaders. It also teaches us that we should respect our elders and follow their instructions even if we do not agree with them at first.
