Volunteering in Times of Need

SUMMARY: On the day of Uhud, the Prophet (ﷺ) asked for volunteers to go on the track of pagans who had left and seventy men volunteered, including Abu Bakr and Az-Zubair.

Narrated 'Aisha: Regarding the Holy Verse: "Those who responded (To the call) of Allah And the Apostle (Muhammad), After being wounded, For those of them Who did good deeds And refrained from wrong, there is a great reward". (3:172) She said to 'Urwa, "O my nephew! Your father, Az-Zubair and Abu Bakr were amongst them (ie those who responded to the call of Allah and the Apostle on the day (of the battle of Uhud). When Allah's Messenger , suffered what he suffered on the day of Uhud and the pagans left, the Prophet was afraid that they might return. So he said, 'Who will go on their (ie pagans') track?' He then selected seventy men from amongst them (for this purpose)". (The sub-narrator added, "Abu Bakr and Az- Zubair were amongst them")

QUICK LESSONS:
Respond positively to calls from Allah & His Messenger; Do good deeds; Volunteer help in times of need.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how people responded to a call from Allah and His Messenger on the day of Uhud. On this day, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was wounded and he feared that the pagans might return. He asked for volunteers to go on their track and seventy men volunteered, including Abu Bakr and Az-Zubair. This shows us that when we are in need or facing difficulty, we should respond positively by volunteering our help. We should also remember that Allah rewards those who do good deeds with a great reward.
