The Dignity of Work

SUMMARY: It is better to work hard and earn money than to beg from people.

Zubair bin 'Awwam (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah said, "It is far better for you to take your rope, go to the mountain, (cut some firewood) carry it on your back, and sell it and thereby save your face than begging from people whether they give you or refuse". Al-Bukhari.

This hadith emphasizes the importance of working hard and earning money instead of begging from people. It teaches us that it is far more dignified to work for our own livelihood than to ask others for help. This hadith also encourages us to be independent and take responsibility for our own lives, rather than relying on others. Furthermore, it teaches us that we should strive to maintain our respectability by not asking others for help if we can provide for ourselves. We should always remember that Allah has given us the ability and strength to work hard in order to earn a living, so we should make use of this blessing instead of relying on other people's charity or generosity.
