Appointment of Abdullah bin Jubair as Commander

SUMMARY: The Prophet appointed Abdullah bin Jubair as the commander of the cavalry archers on the day of the battle of Uhud, and they returned defeated.

Narrated Al-Bara' bin 'Azib: The Prophet appointed 'Abdullah bin Jubair as the commander of the cavalry archers on the day of the battle of Uhud. Then they returned defeated, and that what is referred to by Allah's Statement:-- "And the Apostle (Muhammad) was in your rear calling you back". (3.153)
حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ جَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ عَلَى الرَّجَّالَةِ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ، وَأَقْبَلُوا مُنْهَزِمِينَ، فَذَاكَ إِذْ يَدْعُوهُمُ الرَّسُولُ فِي أُخْرَاهُمْ‏.‏

This hadith is about how Prophet Muhammad appointed Abdullah bin Jubair as commander of the cavalry archers during a battle at Uhud. The Prophet was in their rear, calling them back, but they were defeated. This hadith teaches us that we should always obey our leaders and follow their instructions even if it seems difficult or impossible to do so. We should also remember that Allah is always with us and will help us if we put our trust in Him.
