The Mercy & Punishment of Allah

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that when Allah intends to show mercy to a people, He sends them a Prophet as a herald of happiness for them in the Hereafter. On the other hand, when Allah intends to destroy a people, He punishes them while their Prophet is alive and makes him witness their destruction due to their disbelief and disobedience.

Abu Mu sa Al-Ash'ari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet said, "When Allah intends to show mercy to a people, He collects their Prophet before them and makes him a herald to happiness for them in the Hereafter; and when He intends to destroy a people, He punishes them while their Prophet is alive, and destroys them while he is alive and watches them and makes him witness their destruction because they disbelieved in him and disobeyed his commands". Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey your prophet's teachings and commands from God; Believe in prophets sent by God; Respect divine decrees/commands; Show kindness towards others; Have faith in what has been revealed by your prophet.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that when Allah wishes to show mercy upon His people, He sends them a prophet as an announcement of joy in the hereafter. On the other hand, if Allah wishes to punish His people for their sins and disobedience, He will do so while they are still alive with their prophet watching it all unfold. This is because they have denied his teachings and disobeyed his commands. The lesson here is that we should always strive to obey our prophets’ teachings so that we can be blessed with mercy from God instead of punishment.
