Intercession in Marriage

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised a woman to go back to her husband, but she refused and the Prophet (ﷺ) only interceded.

Ibn 'Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them), reported in connection with the case of Barirah (May Allah be pleased with her) and her husband: The Prophet said to her, "It is better for you to go back to your husband". She asked: "O Messenger of Allah, do you order me to do so". He replied, "I only intercede" She then said: "I have no need for him". Al-Bukhari.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect other people's decisions , Offer advice without forcing one's opinion on another person .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of marriage and how it should be respected. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked by a woman named Barirah if he ordered her to go back to her husband. He replied that he only interceded for her. This shows us that even though marriage is important in Islam, it should not be forced upon someone who does not want it anymore. It also teaches us that we should respect other people's decisions even if we do not agree with them. We can still offer advice or intercede on their behalf without forcing our opinion on them.
