Assassination of Abu Rafi'

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sent a group of people to kill Abu Rafi', and one of them, Abdullah bin Atik, succeeded in doing so by entering his house at night while he was sleeping.

Narrated Al-Bara bin Azib: Allah's Messenger sent a group of persons to Abu Rafi''.Abdullah bin Atik entered his house at night, while he was sleeping, and killed him.
حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ رَهْطًا إِلَى أَبِي رَافِعٍ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَتِيكٍ بَيْتَهُ لَيْلاً وَهْوَ نَائِمٌ فَقَتَلَهُ‏.‏
