Sahih al-Bukhari 4024 (Book 64, Hadith 73) #3848
The Three Civil Strifes of Islam

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the three civil strifes that occurred in Islam and how they affected the people.

Narrated Said bin Al-Musaiyab: When the first civil strife (in Islam) took place because of the murder of 'Uthman, it left none of the Badr warriors alive. When the second civil strife, that is the battle of Al-Harra, took place, it left none of the Hudaibiya treaty companions alive. Then the third civil strife took place and it did not subside till it had exhausted all the strength of the people.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Allah's commands and strive for unity among Muslims by respecting others' opinions/beliefs even if they differ from yours .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of three civil strifes that occurred in early Islamic history. The first was due to the murder of Uthman, a companion of Prophet Muhammad. This strife left none of the Badr warriors alive. The second was due to a battle called Al-Harra which left none of the companions who signed the Hudaibiya treaty alive. Finally, there was a third civil strife which exhausted all strength from people involved in it. These events are important reminders for Muslims today as they show us how quickly things can escalate when we do not follow Allah's commands and instead choose to fight each other over worldly matters. We must remember that our ultimate goal should be pleasing Allah and not fighting with each other over trivial matters or differences in opinion or beliefs.
