Patience and Jealousy in the Sight of Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised a person from the Ansar to remain patient and not be jealous of those who are given preference over him, as he will meet the Prophet (ﷺ) at Al-Kauthar in Jannah.

Usaid bin Hudhair (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that: A person from among the Ansar said, "O Messenger of Allah! You appointed such and such person and why do you not appoint me?" Messenger of Allah said, "After me you will see others given preference to you, but you should remain patient till you meet me at the Haud (Al- Kauthar in Jannah)". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Have patience when faced with difficult situations or when someone else is given something instead of you .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about patience and jealousy in the sight of Allah. It was narrated by Usaid bin Hudhair, who reported that a person from among the Ansar said to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, “You appointed such and such person and why do you not appoint me?” The Prophet ﷺ replied that after him others would be given preference over him but he should remain patient until they meet at Al- Kauthar in Paradise. This hadith teaches us that we should have patience when we are faced with difficult situations or when someone else is given something instead of us. We should also avoid being jealous or envious of others because Allah knows best what is good for us. We must trust Him and His decisions even if it means waiting for our reward until we reach Paradise.
