Refusing Forgiveness of Ransom

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) refused to allow a group of Ansar to forgive the ransom of their sister's son, 'Abbas.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Some men of the Ansar requested Allah's Messenger to allow them to see him, they said, "Allow us to forgive the ransom of our sister's son, 'Abbas". The Prophet said, "By Allah, you will not leave a single Dirham of it!"

QUICK LESSONS:
Fulfill your obligations and responsibilities even if it means sacrificing something in return

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a group of people from the Ansar tribe who asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to allow them to forgive the ransom for their sister's son, Abbas. The Prophet ﷺ refused and said that they would not leave a single Dirham of it. This hadith teaches us that we should not be lenient when it comes to fulfilling our obligations and responsibilities. We should always strive to fulfill our commitments even if it means sacrificing something in return. It also shows us how important family ties are in Islam as the people were willing to sacrifice money for their relative's freedom.
