Riyad as-Salihin 1822 (Book 18, Hadith 15) #38311
The Mountain of Gold and its Consequences

SUMMARY: The hadith speaks of a time when the River Euphrates will dry up and reveal a mountain of gold, which people will fight over. Most of them will die in the fighting, but each one hopes to be the only survivor.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah said, "The Hour will not come to pass before the River Euphrates dries up to unveil the mountain of gold, for which people will fight. Ninety-nine out of one hundred will die (in the fighting) and every man amongst them will say: 'Perhaps I may be the only one to remain alive"'. Another narration is: "The time is near when the River Euphrates will dry up to unveil a treasure of gold. Whosoever may be alive at that time, should not take anything of it". Al-Bukhari and Muslim

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for peace instead engaging in conflict or violence over material possessions or wealth .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about a time that is yet to come when the River Euphrates will dry up and reveal a mountain of gold. People who are alive at that time would be tempted to take some of this gold for themselves, however they should not do so as it could lead to fighting amongst them. It is said that ninety-nine out of every hundred people who fight over this treasure would die in the process. Each person hopes they may be the only one left alive after all this fighting has taken place. This hadith teaches us about how greed can lead us astray and cause harm to ourselves and others around us if we are not careful with our actions. We should always strive for peace instead of engaging in conflict or violence over material possessions or wealth as it can have dire consequences on our lives and those around us.
