The Power of Remembrance

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised one of his companions to always remember Allah and keep their tongue wet with the remembrance of Him.

'Abdullah bin Busr (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: One of the Companions said, "O Messenger of Allah. There are many injunctions of Islam for me. So tell me something to which I may hold fast". He said, "Keep your tongue wet with the remembrance of Allah". At-Tirmidhi.
وعن عبد الله بن بشر رضي الله عنه أن رجلا قال‏:‏ يا رسول الله، إن شرائع الإسلام قد كثرت علي، فأخبرني بشيء أتشبث به قال‏:‏ ‏ "‏لا يزال لسانك رطبًا من ذكر الله‏"‏‏.‏ رواه الترمذي وقال حديث حسن‏.‏

This hadith is about the power of remembrance. It was narrated by Abdullah bin Busr who reported that one of the Companions asked the Prophet Muhammad for advice on how to stay connected to Islam. In response, he said “Keep your tongue wet with the remembrance of Allah”. This means that we should constantly remember and praise Allah in our words and actions throughout our day-to-day lives. Doing so will help us stay connected to Islam and make sure we are living according to its teachings. It also reminds us that no matter what we are doing or where we are going, it is important for us to always remember God and His greatness in all aspects of life.
