Riyad as-Salihin 1308 (Book 11, Hadith 24) #37797
Encouraging Jihad in the Way of Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged a young man to fight in the way of Allah by providing him with the necessary equipment.

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: A young man from the Aslam tribe said: "O Messenger of Allah! I would very much like to fight in the way of Allah but I do not have anything with which to equip myself for fighting". The Messenger of Allah said, "Go to so-and-so, for he had equipped himself (for fighting) but he fell ill". So, he (the young man) went to him and said: "The Messenger of Allah sends you his greetings and says that you should hand over to me the equipment that you have procured". The man said to his wife: "Give him the equipment which I have collected for myself and do not withhold anything from him. By Allah! Allah won't bless something you withheld (in this respect)". Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about encouraging jihad in the way of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was approached by a young man from the Aslam tribe who wanted to fight for Allah but did not have any equipment. In response, he directed him to someone who had already equipped himself for battle but fell ill and could not go himself. He then instructed this person's wife to give all his equipment to the young man so that he could fight in place of her husband. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to help those who are willing and eager to do good deeds for Allah even if it means sacrificing something we own or have worked hard for ourselves. It also shows us that when we do good deeds out of love and devotion for our Creator, He will bless us with His mercy and grace.
