Fasting on the Ninth of Muharram

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) promised to fast on the ninth of Muharram if he was still alive.

Ibn 'Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, "If I remain alive till the next year, I shall also observe fast on the ninth of Muharram". Muslim.
وعن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال‏:‏ قال رسول الله ‏:‏ ‏ "‏لئن بقيت إلى قابل لأصومن التاسع‏"‏ ‏(‏‏(‏رواه مسلم‏)‏‏)‏‏.‏
