Riyad as-Salihin 1170 (Book 8, Hadith 180) #37659
The Prophet's Balanced Lifestyle

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would sometimes fast and sometimes not, and he would pray at night or sleep.

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah used to leave off observing Saum (fasting) during a month until we thought that he would not observe Saum at all during it; and (sometimes) he would observe Saum till we began to think that he would not omit any day of that month. If one wished to see him performing Salat during the night, he could do that; and if one wished to see him sleeping at night, he could do that. Al- Bukhari.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of balance in our lives. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was an example of this balance, as he would both fast and not fast, pray at night or sleep. This teaches us that it is important to have a balanced lifestyle in order to stay healthy and productive. We should strive for a lifestyle that includes prayer, fasting, restful sleep, and other activities that bring us joy. It is also important to remember that we are all different; what works for one person may not work for another. Therefore it is important to find the right balance for ourselves individually so we can live our best lives!
