Riyad as-Salihin 1111 (Book 8, Hadith 121) #37600
Praying Before Fajr Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) would perform eleven Rak'ah before the Fajr prayer, concluding each two Rak'ah with Taslim and observing the Witr at the end. When it was dawn, he would rise and perform two short Rak'ah, then lie down on his right side till Iqamah.

'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: When the Prophet finished the 'Isha prayer, he would perform eleven Rak'ah before the Fajr prayer, concluding each two Rak'ah with Taslim (ie, saying As-Salamu 'Alaikum) and observing the Witr (odd) at the end. When the Mu'adhdhin finished proclaiming Adhan for the Fajr prayer and it was dawn, he would rise and perform two short Rak'ah, and then would lie down on his right side till the Mu'adhdhin came to (inform) him about Iqamah. Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take advantage of every moment to pray to Allah SWT . Strive for meaningful prayers instead of just going through motions without any thought or feeling behind them .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to pray before the fajr prayer. He would perform eleven rak’ahs of salat in pairs of two rak’ahs each, ending each pair with a taslim and an odd number of rak’ahs at the end called witri. When it was dawn he would stand up for two more short rak’ahs and then lie down on his right side until it was time for iqama. This hadith teaches us that we should take advantage of every moment to pray to Allah SWT as much as possible because we never know when our time will come to an end. We should also strive to make our prayers meaningful by focusing on what we are saying during them instead of just going through the motions without any thought or feeling behind them.
