The hadith of Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri speaks to the importance of taking initiative and leading by example when it comes to acquiring virtues. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was concerned that his companions were falling behind in their efforts to acquire good qualities, so he encouraged them to come forward and take the lead. He reminded them that if they failed to do so, Allah would put them behind.
