Riyad as-Salihin 1057 (Book 8, Hadith 67) #37546
Rewarding Prayer in Congregation

SUMMARY: The person who performs prayer in the mosque from the farthest distance and waits for prayer to perform it with the Imam will have a greater reward than those who observe it alone.

Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, "The person who will receive the highest reward for Salat (prayer) is the one who comes to perform it in the mosque from the farthest distance. And he who waits for Salat to perform it with the Imam (in congregation) will have a greater reward than the one who observes it alone and then goes to sleep". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Make an effort of going out of your way and travelling long distances if necessary just so you can be part of congregational prayers at mosques; Strive to pray in congregation as much as possible; Increase your rewards on Judgement Day by praying in congregation; Do not just pray alone at home or wherever you are; Have patience while waiting for prayer time with an Imam; Be obedient towards Allah's commands regarding prayer times etc.; Show commitment towards your faith by attending congregational prayers regularly etc..

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how one can receive a greater reward for their prayers. It is narrated by Abu Musa Al-Ash'ariy that Prophet Muhammad said that the person who comes to perform salat in the mosque from the farthest distance will receive the highest reward. Additionally, he also said that those who wait for salat to perform it with an Imam will have a greater reward than those who observe it alone and then go back to sleep. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to pray in congregation as much as possible and not just pray alone at home or wherever we are. It also encourages us to make an effort of going out of our way and travelling long distances if necessary just so we can be part of congregational prayers at mosques. Doing so would bring us closer to Allah and increase our rewards on Judgement Day.
