Riyad as-Salihin 1019 (Book 8, Hadith 29) #37508
Greatest Verse in the Quran

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asked Abu Mundhir which verse in the Quran is the greatest, and Abu Mundhir replied with 2:256. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was pleased with his answer and congratulated him.

Ubayy bin Ka'b (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said: "Abu Mundhir! Do you know which Ayah in Allah's Book is the greatest?" I replied: "It is 'Allah la ilaha illa Huwal-Haiyul-Qayum (Allah! none has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living.)'". (2:256) Thereupon he patted me in the chest and said, "Rejoice by this knowledge, O Abu Mundhir!" Muslim.
