Five Duties of a Muslim Towards Another

SUMMARY: Every Muslim has five duties to perform for another Muslim, which include returning greetings, visiting the sick, accompanying funeral processions, accepting an invitation and responding to a sneezer.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, "Every Muslim has five rights over another Muslim (ie, he has to perform five duties for another Muslim): to return the greetings, to visit the sick, to accompany funeral processions, to accept an invitation, to respond to the sneezer ie, to say: 'Yarhamuk-Allah (may Allah bestow His Mercy on you),' when the sneezer praises Allah". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teaches us that every Muslim has five duties towards another. These include returning greetings when someone greets you; visiting the sick when someone is ill; accompanying funeral processions when someone passes away; accepting an invitation if invited and responding to a sneezer by saying ‘Yarhamuk-Allah’ which means ‘may Allah bestow His Mercy on you’. By performing these acts of kindness we can show our love and respect for one another as Muslims. We should also remember that these are not just acts of kindness but they are also obligations that we must fulfill in order to be true believers in Islam.
