Riyad as-Salihin 859 (Book 5, Hadith 16) #37348
The Importance of Proper Prayer

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of performing Salat (prayer) properly and repeating it if it is not done correctly.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him)reported in the Hadith concerning the person who was at fault in performing his Salat (prayer): He came to the Prophet and greeted him. The Prophet responded to the greeting and said, "Go back and repeat your Salat because you have not performed the Salat (properly)'.' He again performed Salat as he had prayed before and came to the Prophet and greeted him. The Prophet responded to the greetings (and repeated his words to him). This act of repeating (the Salat and the Salam) was done thrice. Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform your prayers properly according to Islamic teachings

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of performing prayer properly. It was narrated by Abu Hurairah may Allah be pleased with him that a person came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and greeted him after having performed his prayer incorrectly. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told him to repeat his prayer as he had not done it correctly. He repeated his prayer three times and each time he came back to greet the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who responded in kind each time. This shows us how important it is for us to perform our prayers correctly as this was something that even the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized on when teaching others about Islam. We should take care in making sure we are following all of the steps required for a proper prayer so that we can reap its full benefits and blessings from Allah SWT.
