Riyad as-Salihin 846 (Book 5, Hadith 3) #37335
Seven Acts of Kindness

SUMMARY: This hadith encourages us to do seven things: visit the sick, follow the funeral of a dead believer, invoke mercy upon one who sneezes, support the weak, help the oppressed, promote peace and help those who swear to keep their oaths.

Al-Bara' bin 'Azib (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah commanded us to do seven things: to visit the sick, to follow the funeral (of a dead believer), to invoke the Mercy of Allah upon one who sneezes (ie, by saying to him: Yarhamuk- Allah), to support the weak, to help the oppressed, to promote the greeting of 'As-Salamu 'Alaikum', and to help those who swear to do something to keep their oaths. Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us seven acts of kindness that we should strive to practice in our daily lives. These acts include visiting the sick, following a funeral procession for a deceased believer, invoking mercy upon someone who sneezes by saying “Yarhamuk Allah” or “May Allah have mercy on you” in Arabic, supporting those who are weak or vulnerable in society such as orphans and widows, helping those who are oppressed or marginalized by society such as refugees and immigrants; promoting peace through greetings like “As Salamu Alaikum” which means “Peace be upon you”; and helping people keep their oaths if they have sworn to do something. By practicing these acts of kindness we can make our world a better place for everyone.
