Riyad as-Salihin 843 (Book 4, Hadith 31) #37332
The Worst Lies

SUMMARY: Lying is wrong, especially when it involves claiming a false father, telling a false dream or attributing something to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that he did not say.

Wathilah bin Al-Asqa' (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah said, "Of the worst lies are: to claim a false father, or to pretend to have seen what one has not seen (tell a false dream), or to attribute to the Messenger of Allah what he has not said". Al-Bukhari.

QUICK LESSONS:
Tell truth in words & actions; Respect for Allah & His Messenger; Avoid lying

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teaches us that lying is wrong and should be avoided. It specifically mentions three types of lies which are particularly bad - claiming a false father, telling a false dream or attributing something to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that he did not say. These lies are considered worse than other types of lies because they involve dishonesty towards Allah and His Messenger. We should strive to always tell the truth in our words and actions so as to please Allah and earn His reward in this life and hereafter.
