Riyad as-Salihin 823 (Book 4, Hadith 11) #37312
Sitting Posture and Divine Wrath

SUMMARY: We should not sit in a way that is similar to those who have been cursed by Allah.

Ash-Sharid bin Suwaid (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah passed by me when I was sitting with my left hand behind my back and leaning on my palm. On seeing me in this posture he said, "Do you sit like those upon whom the Wrath of Allah has descended?" Abu Dawud.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of our actions and how we present ourselves in public; Strive to act in a manner that is pleasing to God; Follow proper etiquette and manners when interacting with others or even just sitting in public places

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was passing by when he noticed Ash-Sharid bin Suwaid sitting with his left hand behind his back and leaning on his palm. He asked if he was sitting like those upon whom the wrath of Allah had descended. This hadith teaches us that we should always be mindful of our actions and how we present ourselves in public. We should not do anything that could potentially anger or displease God, as it could lead to His wrath being directed towards us. It also teaches us the importance of etiquette and proper manners when interacting with others or even just sitting in public places. We must always strive to act in a manner that is pleasing to God so as to avoid His wrath descending upon us.
