The Prophet's Night Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to offer eleven Rak'ah of optional Salat (prayers) in the latter part of night and two short Rak'ah when it was about dawn.

'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Prophet used to offer eleven Rak'ah of optional Salat (prayers) in the latter part of night. When it was about dawn, he would offer two short Rak'ah and then would lie down on his right side till the Mu'adhdhin (one who calls for prayer) would come to inform him that the congregation had gathered (for prayer). Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Offer voluntary prayers at night
EXPLANATIONS:
According to this hadith narrated by Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her), the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to offer eleven rak'ahs of optional salat or prayer in the latter part of the night. This is a voluntary prayer that is not obligatory but highly recommended for Muslims. When it was close to dawn, he would then offer two short rak'ahs and then lie down on his right side until he was informed that the congregation had gathered for prayer. This hadith teaches us about how important it is for Muslims to pray at night as well as how devoted and dedicated our beloved prophet ﷺ was towards his prayers. It also shows us how important it is for us to stay connected with our faith even during late hours of the night when we are tired and exhausted from our daily activities.
