Riyad as-Salihin 812 (Book 3, Hadith 35) #37301
The Blessing of Wearing New Clothes

SUMMARY: When wearing a new garment, one should thank Allah and ask for its goodness and protection from its evil.

Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Messenger of Allah wore a new garment, he would name it. For instance, a turban, shirt, or cloak and would supplicate: "Allahumma lakal-hamdu, Anta kasautanihi, as'aluka khairahu wa khaira ma suni'a lahu, wa a'udhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni'a lahu (O Allah, all the praise is for You that You have given it to me to put on. I ask You its goodness and the goodness of the purpose for which it was made, and I seek Your Protection from its evil and the evil of the purpose for which it was made)'.' Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi.

QUICK LESSONS:
Express gratitude towards Allah whenever receiving something beneficial in life; Make special supplications when wearing a new garment; Show appreciation for all blessings received from Allah; Seek protection against any harm due to these blessings

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of expressing gratitude to Allah when we receive something new. It is important to remember that all blessings come from Allah and it is only right that we thank Him for them. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us to make a special supplication when wearing a new garment such as a turban, shirt or cloak. In this supplication we ask for the goodness of the item as well as protection from any harm it may bring us. We can also apply this lesson in our daily lives by thanking Allah whenever we receive something new or beneficial in our lives. This could include anything from material possessions to knowledge or even spiritual guidance. By doing so, we are showing appreciation for all that He has given us and seeking His protection against any harm that may come our way due to these blessings.
