Riyad as-Salihin 793 (Book 3, Hadith 16) #37282
The Consequences of Unethical Behaviour

SUMMARY: Allah will not speak to, look at, or purify those who trail their lower garment, boast of kindness shown to another, and promote sale of business by taking false oaths.

Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Prophet saying, "There are three to whom Allah will neither speak on the Day of Resurrection nor will look at them nor purify them (ie, of their sins), and they will be severely tormented". When he repeated this (statement) thrice, Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) said: "They are doomed and destroyed! (But) who are they, O Messenger of Allah ?" He said, "One whose lower garment trails, one who boasts of kindness shown to another; and one who promotes sale of his business by taking false oaths". Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the consequences of unethical behaviour. According to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), there are three behaviours that will lead one away from Allah's mercy on the Day of Resurrection. These include trailing one's lower garment in a way that is disrespectful or boastful; boasting about kindness shown to another; and promoting a business by taking false oaths. All these behaviours are considered wrong in Islam and can lead one away from Allah's mercy if done intentionally or without repentance. On the Day of Resurrection, those who have committed such acts will not be spoken to by Allah nor looked upon nor purified from their sins - they will instead face severe punishment for their actions. Therefore it is important for Muslims to remember this hadith and strive towards ethical behaviour in all aspects of life so as not to incur any form of punishment on the Day of Judgement.
