Wudu' and Salat: A Hadith from Jabir

SUMMARY: Wudu' is not necessary for prayer after eating cooked food, as it was rarely available during the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Sa'id bin Al-Harith reported: I asked Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) whether it was obligatory to make Wudu' for Salat (prayer) after eating cooked food. He said: "No, because in the lifetime of Messenger of Allah , such food was rarely available. We had no handkerchiefs, so when we ate such food we would wipe our fingers against our palms, forearms or (the sole of our) feet, and would offer Salat without fresh Wudu' (for prayer)". Al- Bukhari.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be resourceful in difficult times . Find solutions even when faced with limited resources . Clean oneself before offering salat .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was alive, cooked food was not widely available. Therefore, if someone ate such food they would wipe their hands on their palms or feet to clean them instead of performing wudu'. This means that wudu' is not necessary for prayer after eating cooked food. The hadith also teaches us the importance of being resourceful in difficult times. Even though handkerchiefs were not available at the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), people still found a way to clean themselves before offering salat. This hadith encourages us to be creative and find solutions even when we are faced with limited resources.
