Signs of a Hypocrite

SUMMARY: A hypocrite is identified by their lies, broken promises and betrayal of trust.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah said, "Three are the signs of a hypocrite: When he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he is trusted, he betrays his trust". Al-Bukhari and Muslim. Another narration adds the words: "Even if he observes Saum (fasts), performs Salat (prayer) and claims to be a Muslim".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest in speech and action; Be trustworthy and reliable in all matters; Avoid associating with hypocrites or taking their advice seriously.

Avoid : Lying; Breaking promises; Betraying trust

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us that a hypocrite can be identified by three signs. Firstly, they are known to lie when they speak. Secondly, they make promises but do not keep them. Lastly, if someone trusts them with something important then they will betray that trust. These traits are the opposite of what a true believer should have; honesty in speech and action as well as being trustworthy and reliable in all matters. It is important for us to remember these teachings so that we can identify hypocrites in our lives and avoid associating with them or taking their advice seriously.
