Sunan Ibn Majah 159 (Book) #37061
Compassion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed kindness and compassion to Jarir bin 'Abdullah Al-Bajali, and prayed for him to be firm in his faith and guide others.

It was narrated that Jarir bin 'Abdullah Al-Bajali said: "The Messenger of Allah never refused to see me from the time I became Muslim, and whenever he saw me he would smile at me. I complained to him that I could not sit firmly on a horse, so he struck me on the chest with his hand and said: 'O Allah, make him firm and cause him to guide others and be rightly-guided'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness towards those around you regardless of their shortcomings or mistakes; Pray for them so that they may be guided on the right path.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Jarir bin 'Abdullah Al-Bajali speaks of the immense compassion that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had for his companions. Despite being a busy man, he never refused to see Jarir when he came to visit him. Whenever they met, the Prophet would smile at him warmly. When Jarir complained about not being able to sit firmly on a horse, instead of scolding or reprimanding him, the Prophet struck his chest with his hand and prayed for Allah's help in making him firm in faith and guiding others as well as himself. This hadith teaches us that we should always show kindness towards those around us regardless of their shortcomings or mistakes; we should also pray for them so that they may be guided on the right path.
