The Four People Loved by Allah and the Prophet

SUMMARY: Allah commanded the Prophet Muhammad to love four people and He also loves them.

Ibn Buraidah narrated that his father said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Allah has commanded me to love four people, and He told me that He also loves them'. He was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, who are they?' He said: ''Ali is one of them,' and he said that three times, 'and Abu Dharr, Salman and Miqdad'."
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، وَسُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ الإِيَادِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏"‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي بِحُبِّ أَرْبَعَةٍ وَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ يُحِبُّهُمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَنْ هُمْ قَالَ ‏"‏ عَلِيٌّ مِنْهُمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ ثَلاَثًا ‏"‏ وَأَبُو ذَرٍّ وَسَلْمَانُ وَالْمِقْدَادُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us that Allah commanded the Prophet Muhammad to love four people, namely Ali, Abu Dharr, Salman and Miqdad. It also tells us that Allah loves these same four people as well. This hadith teaches us about the importance of loving those who are beloved to God. It is a reminder for us to show our love for those who are close to Him and it encourages us to strive towards being one of those whom He loves. We can learn from this hadith that we should be kind and generous towards others in order to gain His pleasure. Furthermore, it teaches us about loyalty; we should remain loyal even when times get tough or when we face opposition from others because loyalty is something which is highly valued by God.
