Welcoming Guests with Kindness

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) welcomed a young girl from Ethiopia and made her wear a sheet with marks on it. He then rubbed the marks with his hands and said "Sanah! Sanah!" which means good, good.

Narrated Um Khalid bint Khalid: When I came from Ethiopia (to Medina), I was a young girl. Allah's Messenger made me wear a sheet having marks on it. Allah's Messenger was rubbing those marks with his hands saying, "Sanah! Sanah!" (ie good, good).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's kindness towards guests. When Um Khalid bint Khalid arrived in Medina from Ethiopia, he welcomed her warmly by making her wear a sheet with marks on it and rubbing them while saying "Sanah! Sanah!", which means good, good. This shows us that we should always welcome our guests kindly and make them feel at home. We should also show respect to those who come to visit us no matter where they are from or what their background is. It teaches us that hospitality is an important part of being a Muslim and that we should always strive to be kind to others when they come into our homes or lives.
