The Virtues of Umar

SUMMARY: The hadith speaks of the virtues of Umar and how he will be the first person to be greeted with salam and admitted into Paradise.

It was narrted that Ubayy bin Ka'b said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'The first person with whom Allah will shake hands will be 'Umar, (and he is) the first person to be greeted with the Salam, and the first person who will be taken by the hand and admitted into Paradise'."
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الطَّلْحِيُّ، أَنْبَأَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ الْمَدِينِيُّ، عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ أُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ أَوَّلُ مَنْ يُصَافِحُهُ الْحَقُّ عُمَرُ وَأَوَّلُ مَنْ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَوَّلُ مَنْ يَأْخُذُ بِيَدِهِ فَيُدْخِلُهُ الْجَنَّةَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the virtues of Umar, one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad. It is narrated that Prophet Muhammad said that Allah will shake hands with Umar first when He greets him in paradise, and he will be the first person to receive salam from Allah. This shows us how much Allah loves and respects Umar for his good deeds on earth. It also teaches us that if we want to enter paradise, we must strive to do good deeds in this life so that Allah may love us too. We should also remember to greet each other with salam as it is a sign of respect and love between people.
