The Consequences of Lying About the Prophet

SUMMARY: Lying about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is a major sin and will result in punishment in the hereafter.

It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud that his father said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever tells lies about me deliberately, let him take his place in Hell".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَسُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ، وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَىَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us against lying about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud that his father said that the Messenger of Allah said that whoever tells lies about him deliberately will take his place in Hell. This means that lying about the prophet is a major sin and those who do it will face severe punishment in the hereafter. We should always strive to speak truthfully and not lie or spread false information about anyone, especially our beloved prophet.
