Sunan Ibn Majah 2 (Book) #36904
Obeying the Prophet's Commands

SUMMARY: The Prophet is warning people to not ask him questions about matters he has avoided discussing, as those who came before them were destroyed due to their questioning and differences with their Prophets. He also encourages people to obey his commands and refrain from doing what he forbids.

Abu Hurairah narrated that: The Prophet said: "Leave me as I have left you (Don't ask me the minor things that I have avoided to tell you). For those who came before you were doomed because of their questions and differences with their Prophets. If I commanded you to do something, then do as much of it as you can, and if I forbid you from doing something, then refrain from it".

We should strive to do as much of what he commanded us as possible, and refrain from doing what he forbade us from doing. This hadith teaches us that it is important for Muslims to follow the teachings of Islam without question or hesitation, in order for them to be successful in this life and in the hereafter. It also reminds us that we must have faith in Allah’s wisdom when it comes to His commandments, even if we don’t understand why something was forbidden or commanded at first glance.
