The Consequences of Wickedness

SUMMARY: People will be destroyed if there is much wickedness, even if there are some good people among them.

Malik related to me that he had heard that Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Messenger of Allah! Shall we be destroyed while there are people who are salih among us?" The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Yes, if there is much wickedness".

EXPLANATIONS:
Umm Salama asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ whether they would be destroyed even though there were some righteous people among them. The Prophet ﷺ replied that yes, they would be destroyed if there was much wickedness. This hadith teaches us that no matter how many good people are in a society or community, it can still suffer destruction due to the presence of too much wickedness and evil. It also shows us that we should strive to do as many good deeds as possible and stay away from any kind of wrongdoing or sinning so that our communities can remain safe and prosperous.
