Traveling Alone Without Mahram

SUMMARY: It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to travel alone for a day and night without her mahram.

Malik related to me from Said ibn Abi Said al-Maqburi from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "It is not halal for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to travel the distance of a day and night without a man who is her mahram".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teaches us that it is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to travel alone for a day and night without her mahram. A mahram is someone who is related to you by blood or marriage such as your father, brother or husband. The Prophet ﷺ was teaching us that it is important for women to be accompanied by someone they are related to when traveling so they can be safe and protected. This hadith also teaches us about the importance of believing in Allah and following His commands. We should always strive to do what He has commanded us so we can live our lives according to His will.
