Sahih al-Bukhari 3856 (Book 63, Hadith 81) #3684
Intervening to Protect the Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was violently attacked while praying in the Hijr of the Ka'ba, but Abu Bakr intervened and stopped the attacker from killing him.

Narrated 'Urwa bin Az-Zubair: I asked Ibn 'Amr bin Al-As, "Tell me of the worst thing which the pagans did to the Prophet". He said, "While the Prophet was praying in the Hijr of the Ka'ba; 'Uqba bin Abi Mu'ait came and put his garment around the Prophet's neck and throttled him violently. Abu Bakr came and caught him by his shoulder and pushed him away from the Prophet and said, "Do you want to kill a man just because he says, 'My Lord is Allah?' "

QUICK LESSONS:
Stand up for what is right, speak out for one's beliefs, defend those who are wronged or treated unfairly.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Abu Bakr intervened to protect the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when he was attacked while praying in the Hijr of the Ka’aba. Uqba bin Abi Mu’ait came and put his garment around Muhammad's neck and tried to throttle him. Abu Bakr saw this happening and quickly stepped in, pushing Uqba away from Muhammad ﷺ. He asked why Uqba wanted to kill a man just because he said “My Lord is Allah?” This story teaches us that we should always stand up for what is right, even if it means standing up against someone who has more power than us. It also shows us that we should never be afraid to speak out for our beliefs or defend those who are being wronged or treated unfairly.
