Drinking While Standing

SUMMARY: It is permissible to drink while standing.

Yahya related to me from Malik that Abu Jafar al-Qari said, "I saw Abdullah ibn Umar drink while standing".
وَحَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الْقَارِيِّ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَشْرَبُ قَائِمًا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the permissibility of drinking while standing. It was related by Yahya from Malik that Abu Jafar al-Qari said he saw Abdullah ibn Umar drinking while standing. This shows that it is permissible to drink in an upright position and not necessarily sitting down. The hadith also teaches us the importance of following the example set by our elders and those who are knowledgeable in Islamic law as they are more likely to be aware of what is permissible and what is not according to Islamic teachings.
