(Book 45, Hadith 24) #36672
Handling Plague According to Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the plague and how to handle it. It teaches us that if we hear of a plague in a land, we should not go there, and if it comes upon the land we are in, we should not flee from it.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Abdullah ibn Amir ibn Rabia that Umar ibn al-Khattab went out to ash-Sham. When he came to Sargh, near Tabuk, he heard that the plague had broken out in ash-Sham. Abd ar-Rahman ibn Awf told him that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "If you hear that a land has a plague in it, do not go forward to it. If it comes upon a land which you are in, do not depart in flight from it". Umar ibn al- Khattab came back from Sargh.

QUICK LESSONS:
Stay put when faced with difficult situations such as plagues or other disasters; Take precautions against diseases; Trust Allah's plan for us

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how to handle a plague according to Prophet Muhammad. He said that if you hear of a plague in another land, do not go there. If the plague comes upon the land you are already in, do not flee from it. This teaches us that even when faced with difficult situations such as plagues or other disasters, one must remain steadfast and trust Allah's plan for them. We must also remember that fleeing will only spread the disease further and put more people at risk of getting infected. Instead of running away, one should stay put and take precautions such as wearing masks or staying indoors until the situation improves.
