Setting Animals Free

SUMMARY: Zayd ibn Thabit set a hawk free that was captured by someone else.

Yahya related to me from Malik from a man who said, "Zayd ibn Thabit came across me while I was at al-Aswaf (on the outskirts of Madina). I had captured a hawk. He took it from my hands and set it free".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness towards animals, Respect all creatures created by Allah

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of showing mercy to animals. Zayd ibn Thabit was walking in al-Aswaf when he saw someone with a hawk they had captured. Instead of allowing the person to keep it, he took it from them and set it free. This shows us that we should be kind to animals and not take away their freedom or hurt them in any way. We should show mercy towards all creatures, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. It is important for us to remember that Allah has created all creatures with purpose and we should respect them as such.
