Interceding for Thieves is Forbidden

SUMMARY: Interceding for a thief is not allowed and will be cursed by Allah.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman that az-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam came across a man who had taken hold of a thief and was intending to take him to the Sultan. Az-Zubayr ibn al- Awwam interceded for him to let him go. He said, "No. Not until I take him to the Sultan". Az-Zubayr said, "When you reach the Sultan with him, Allah curses the one who intercedes and the one who accepts the intercession".

QUICK LESSONS:
Do not intercede on behalf of thieves or accept any such requests from others

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that interceding for a thief is forbidden and will be cursed by Allah. Az-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam came across a man who had taken hold of a thief and was intending to take him to the Sultan. Az-Zubayr asked him to let the thief go but he refused. He said that he would only let him go after taking him to the Sultan. Az-Zubayr then warned that if they reached the Sultan with the thief, Allah would curse both of them - those who interceded and those who accepted it. This hadith teaches us that we should not intercede on behalf of thieves as it goes against Islamic teachings and will result in being cursed by Allah. We should also not accept any intercession made on behalf of thieves as this too will result in being cursed by Allah.
