Sahih al-Bukhari 3826 (Book 63, Hadith 51) #3654
Rejecting Abominable Practices in Animal Slaughter

SUMMARY: Zaid bin 'Amr bin Nufail criticized the way Quraish used to slaughter their animals, and rejected that practice as something abominable.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: The Prophet met Zaid bin 'Amr bin Nufail in the bottom of (the valley of) Baldah before any Divine Inspiration came to the Prophet. A meal was presented to the Prophet but he refused to eat from it. (Then it was presented to Zaid) who said, "I do not eat anything which you slaughter in the name of your stone idols. I eat none but those things on which Allah's Name has been mentioned at the time of slaughtering". Zaid bin 'Amr used to criticize the way Quraish used to slaughter their animals, and used to say, "Allah has created the sheep and He has sent the water for it from the sky, and He has grown the grass for it from the earth; yet you slaughter it in other than the Name of Allah. He used to say so, for he rejected that practice and considered it as something abominable.

QUICK LESSONS:
Mention The Name Of God When Sacrificing An Animal .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of mentioning the name of Allah when slaughtering an animal. It is narrated by Abdullah bin 'Umar that Prophet Muhammad met Zaid bin Amr before any divine inspiration came to him. A meal was presented to Prophet Muhammad but he refused to eat from it because it was slaughtered in the name of stone idols instead of mentioning the name of Allah at the time of slaughtering. Zaid also refused to eat it and criticized this practice as something abominable. This hadith teaches us that we should always mention the name of Allah when sacrificing an animal for food or any other purpose, as this act will be considered more sacred and blessed by God Almighty. We should also reject any practices which are considered abominable according to Islamic teachings, such as sacrificing animals in other than God's name or eating food which has been sacrificed in other than God's name.
