This hadith is about a man who freed all of his slaves in the time of Aban ibn Uthman's amirate. To decide which group would be set free, Aban ibn Uthman decided to draw lots on the basis that whichever group drew the dead man's arrow would be free. In this way, one third of the slaves were set free due to this lottery system. This hadith teaches us that freedom should not be taken for granted and it is something to be cherished and respected as it can easily be taken away from us if we are not careful with our actions. It also teaches us that justice should always prevail no matter what situation we are in and everyone should have an equal chance at achieving their goals or dreams regardless of their social status or background.
