Equality in Parenting

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised a father to treat all of his children equally and not to favor one over the other.

Yahya related to us from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Humayd ibn Abd ar-Rah man ibn Awf and from Muhammad ibn an-Numan ibn Bashir that they related to him that an-Numan ibn Bashir said that his father Bashir brought him to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said, "I have given this son of mine one of my slaves". The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Have you given each of your children the same as this?" He said, "No". The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Then take the slave back".

QUICK LESSONS:
Treat your children equally without showing favoritism towards any one child over another . Respect everyone regardless of their status or position in society . Strive for justice in your dealings with others .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of treating all children equally. It was narrated by An-Numan ibn Bashir who said that his father brought him to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). His father had given him a slave as a gift, but when asked if he had given each of his children the same gift, he said no. The Prophet (PBUH) then advised him to take back the slave and treat all of his children fairly and equally. This teaches us that it is important for parents to be fair when it comes to their children and not show favoritism towards any one child over another. It also shows us that we should strive for justice in our dealings with others so that everyone can be treated fairly regardless of their status or position in society.
