Respect for Neighbours' Property

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to prevent one's neighbour from fixing a wooden peg in their wall.

Malik related to me from Ibn Shihab from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "No one should prevent his neighbour from fixing a wooden peg in his wall". Then Abu Hurayra said, "Why do I see you turning away from it? By Allah! I shall keep on at you about it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect ones neighbors' property rights by allowing them to fix a wooden peg on their wall without interference .
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of respecting one's neighbours and their property. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that it is not permissible to prevent one's neighbour from fixing a wooden peg in their wall. This shows that we should respect our neighbours and not interfere with what they do on their own property. We should also be mindful of how our actions may affect them and try to be considerate when making decisions about our own property that may affect them as well. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us the importance of being proactive in upholding justice even if it means speaking up against those who are wronging others or preventing them from doing so. Abu Hurayra was an example of this when he spoke up against those who were turning away from the Prophet’s ﷺ teaching about respecting one’s neighbour’s property rights despite his young age at the time.
