Gambling Practices in Pre-Islamic Era

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the gambling practices of people during the pre-Islamic era, which included bartering live animals for slaughtered meat.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Da'ud ibn al-Husayn that he heard Said ibn alMusayyab say, "Part of the gambling of the people of Jahiliya was bartering live animals for slaughtered meat, for instance one live sheep for two slaughtered sheep".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest in our dealings with others .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the gambling practices of people during the pre Islamic era. It mentions that one of their common practices was to barter live animals for slaughtered meat, such as one live sheep for two slaughtered sheep. This shows that gambling was a common practice among them and it was not something new or unheard of at that time. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned against this type of behavior and discouraged it in Islam as it is considered a form of cheating and dishonesty. He also taught us to be honest in our dealings with others and to avoid any kind of deception or fraud when trading goods or services with others.
