The Prohibition of Selling Food Before Taking Possession

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to sell food before taking possession of it.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah ibn Dinar from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Someone who buys food, must not sell it until he takes possession of it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Buy responsibly and do not resell without taking ownership first .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of selling food before taking possession. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that if someone buys food they should not sell it until they have taken ownership or possession of the item. This means that a person cannot buy something and then immediately turn around and resell it without actually having the item in their hands first. This hadith teaches us to be honest in our dealings with others and to be responsible for our actions when buying or selling items. It also encourages us to think carefully about what we are doing before making any decisions that could potentially harm someone else or ourselves financially.
